Emily Kalil [CEO]

Emily brings over 20 years of experience to her role at Northern Tales. As the 12-year Director of Outdoor Education at Camp Summit in Squamish, BC and a previous member of the team at Northern Tales, she has held several roles in the Recreation, Education and Tourism industries, including but not limited to Leadership Director, Dogsled Guide, Canoe Trip Guide, and Hiking Guide.

Emily has been vibrant and positively charged professional in the experiential education and Camping industry for 20 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in Spanish Language & Literature and Minor in Computer Science from the University of Alberta. She also holds a Certificate in Community Engagement and Service-Learning (CSL), which acknowledges outstanding contributions and high ideals of service to the community.  

Throughout her career, Emily has held a position on the board of the BC Camping Association and over a decade of senior leadership and management, thriving in her field. She is a gravitational pull to success and creates cohesion and kindness in every community, with her authenticity and integrity. In addition to her logistics and management expertise, and program facilitation, she holds a strong skillset in the backcountry where she continues to shine. Emily’s ability to coordinate transformative experiences is only surpassed by her poise and boundless joy.

Aaron Ratko [CEO]

Aaron brings with him 20 years of experiential and outdoor education & recreation professionalism. He has brought his inclusive facilitation, group management skills and his directorship experience to our team which he acquired from his previous work in Tourism, Outdoor Education, Leadership Development Centres and Summer Camps across Canada. Aaron graduated from Brock University with a bachelor’s degree in Recreation & Leisure Studies, focusing on Outdoor Recreation & Therapeutic Recreation which he uses to further his passion; to create opportunities for outdoor adventure to everyone. He looks forward to continuing his work with Northern Tales, to continue to blend a sense of adventure and positive group development within the community of Whitehorse and those visiting The Yukon.
