Itinerary: (8 days) Day 1, Saturday We'll greet you at the airport and bring you to the River View Hotel in downtown Whitehorse where you'll be staying for the duration of this tour. All stores, banks and important sights are within easy walking distance of the hotel, so you may explore this lively northern town on your own. You are going Dog Mushing for the next two days! After an introduction on how to harness the dogs and ride a sled you head out on an overnight run to a nearby secluded lake. You will have a chance to see the dogs work with a loaded sled, and experience the joys of traveling through the wilderness with your team. When you set up camp, you will feed and care for the dogs much as mushers in long distance races do. Then you will enjoy a fine meal prepared by your guide, before you snuggle into a cozy Arctic Oven tent. As you drift off to sleep under the shimmering aurora borealis, you will probably hear the haunting howls of your K-9 companions - and if you're lucky, the answering song of the wolf. ^TOP After a hearty breakfast for you and your team, you can spend part of the day exploring or ice-fishing, before driving your team back to home base. We'll transfer you back to your hotel and you have time to enjoy diner in one of the many fine restaurants in town.
In the evening we'll pick you up at 9:30 pm for our first night of Northern Lights Watching. After a 30 minute drive by van we?ll reach our cozy heated cabin, where we'll spend the next four hours scanning the sky for the mystic dancing lights. There is a campfire outside and your guide will be serving you hot drinks and snacks. At around 1:30 am we'll return to the hotel.
You will have time to sleep in; at 10:30 am we'll show you the capital of the Yukon and the surroundings to give you a impression of this wonderful country: During the city tour you'll see the old train station of the White Pass & Yukon Route railroad, the Log Skyscraper, old Log Church and the paddle wheeler SS Klondike. We'll also show you some residential areas and we'll stop at the Visitors Reception Centre. On the way to the Takhini Hot Springs we'll stop at the Wildlife Preserve where you'll see most of the wildlife seen in the Yukon, such as Moose, Caribou, Bison, Dall Sheep, Big Horn Sheep, Musk Oxen and others. After soaking in the hot water of the Takhini Hotsprings for about two hours we'll return to Whitehorse. ^TOP Our van will pick you up at your hotel and off we go to the starting point of our adventure. The drive to the starting point takes about 1 hour and by noon, we should be all geared up and ready to hit the trail. Part of the journey is run on the renowned Yukon Quest Trail and there will be numerous opportunities to stop and take in the scenery. We will make a lunch stop and enjoy hot food and drinks to stay comfortable. Early afternoon, we arrive at the Lodge that will be our home for the night. Together, we will get the fire going, drill a hole into the ice on Coghlan Lake for water and prepare the Lodge for the night. Tonight's hearty, northern dinner will be prepared and enjoyed together and your guide will be happy to share knowledge and stories about the Yukon. After dinner, we will get the sauna ready and for a real northern experience, roll in the snow! You can go for a morning snowmobile tour or an ice fishing adventure on the lake. At around 1pm, we will have to pack up and break camp for the journey back to civilization. On our trip back we will take our time to enjoy the trail and the scenery, check out animal tracks and have a nice lunch stop. Back at our starting point, we can go to the local Lodge and enjoy some hot drinks while the van will be loaded up with our gear and made ready for the trip back to Whitehorse.
In the evening we'll go out for our second night of Aurora Borealis Watching. ^TOP The morning is at your leisure and you'll have time to go shopping or just sleep in. In the afternoon we'll take you snow shoeing and you can try your luck at ice fishing. After our return to Whitehorse you will participate in a 20 minute sightseeing flight over the Whitehorse area with beautiful views over Lake Labarge and Marsh Lake. You'll start your next adventure in the Yukon or we'll bring you to the airport in time for your flight home. ^TOPExcluded:
